Preventative Dental Care

Education and prevention are essential to maintain a healthy mouth for a lifetime.

Why are regular checkups important?

Regular dental checkups every 6 months help ensure that potential problems are caught early. We will check for any problems that you may not see or feel, including cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer. We will complete a thorough dental cleaning and may recommend a Fluoride treatment to help strengthen the tooth enamel and decrease sensitivity many patients report.

We will discuss any concerns you may have and ensure you are choosing the right dental products for your family. And while regular dental checkups and teeth cleanings help maintain a beautiful smile, nothing replaces excellent home care between visits. We want to make sure your family has the information and tools needed to take care of their teeth and gums between checkups.

What are dental sealants?

We may recommend dental sealants as an extra defense to prevent tooth decay. A dental sealant acts as a barrier that protects the tooth against decay-causing bacteria. Sealants are usually applied to the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) on chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars) where decay often occurs. While brushing and flossing removes food particles and plaque from smooth surfaces of teeth, toothbrush bristles often cannot reach all the way into the depressions and grooves to extract food and plaque. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas by "sealing out" plaque and food.
